India set up 'Final Date' with Pakistan

COLLECTED BY: RISHI KAPOOR

The script couldn't have been written any better.

India continued their fairytale run at the Twenty20 World Championship with a 15-run win over One-Day world champions Australia in the semi-final at the Kingsmead in Durban on Saturday.

The win set up the dream final - India versus Pakistan on Monday at the New Wanderers in Johannesburg.

Batting first, Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag threatened to put together yet another good opening stand before Mitchell Johnson got rid of the pair. While Sehwag perished for nine, Gambhir was out for 24 runs.

But that proved to be a blessing in disguise for India with Yuvraj Singh, back in the team, after missing out against South Africa picked up from where he left off against England.

A torrent of sixes and fours flowed from his bat as he raced to his half-century off a mere 20 balls and with Robin Uthappa providing able support; the pair added 84 runs in just 6.3 overs.

Although Uthappa departed for 34, Yuvraj didn't slow down reaching 70 in just 30 balls before Michael Hussey took his catch off Michael Clarke.

Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni provided the icing on the cake with a final flourish as India reached a formidable 188-5 in their 20 overs.

The veteran Australian opening pair of Adam Gilchrist and Matthew Hayden began the job in earnest with breathtaking strokes. India needed a breakthrough and it came courtesy S Sreesanth as he bowled Gilchrist for 22.

Brad Hodge didn't last too long with Irfan Pathan claiming his wicket but the thorn in the Indian flesh Hayden remained.

He had scored three half-centuries in the tournament so far and went on to his fourth with some big strokes as his 50 came in just 40 balls.

Yuvraj's six sixes in an over keep India afloat

CONTRIBUTED BY SRINIVAS ALLAM

yuvraj singh smashed English fast bowler Stuart Broad for six sixes in an over as India won by 18 runs to stay alive in the Twenty20 world championships here on Wednesday.
India, who would have crashed out of the tournament had they lost, piled up 218-4 after electing to take first strike and then restricted England to 200-6 on a rousing night at the jam-packed Kingsmead.
Left-hander Yuvraj's feat in the 19th over gave him the fastest 50 in the tournament off just 12 balls, eight deliveries less than what Bangladesh captain Mohammad Ashraful achieved against the West Indies.
Broad's first two balls were swung over fine leg, the third over cover, the fourth cut over point, the fifth pulled to mid-wicket and the last into the stands at long-on.
It was only the fourth instance in top cricket that six sixes were hit in an over after Garfield Sobers and Ravi Shastri did it in first-class cricket and Herschelle Gibbs in the World Cup earlier this year.
Yuvraj finished with 58 off 16 balls with seven sixes and three boundaries to set up India towards victory in a match they had to win to stay in contention for the semi-finals.
India must, however, beat South Africa here on Thursday if they are to prevent New Zealand and the home team from taking the two semi-final spots from group E of the Super Eights.

How to Be a Model

COLLECTED BY: RISHI KAPOOR

Fancy yourself a glamourous career?

Think you have a pretty face and a great body too?

Well, a career in ramp modelling could be just for you!

With the rise of the Indian supermodel - from Madhu Sapre and Mehr Jessia to Ujwala Raut - modelling is attracting the young, and old alike. However, contrary to popular belief modelling is not quite the cakewalk is appears to be!

Wow Factor

Modelling is all about visual appeal. So to be a successful model, you need to be visually appealing, quite literally! You can be young or old, thin or fat, but you must be presentable. Groom yourself to become a model.

Getting Started

Do you want to walk the ramp or do you want to make a career as a print or television model? Identify your strengths and weaknesses.

Remember to be realistic because you may be the most pretty looking woman in your peer group, but that does not automatically qualify you to be a ramp scorcher. Ramp models have to be at least 5 feet 6 inches tall! So if you are short, your face can launch products instead.

You can be a hand model or hair model or simply be the 'legs' for a new shoe commercial. Have a great set of teeth and a winning smile? You could be just perfect for new toothpaste commercial. The possibilities are infinite!

Model Material As a successful model, be assured of raking in the moolah and living the good life. Depending on the kind of work you do, you can earn anywhere between Rs.5000 upwards per assignment.

The more successful and established models today demand as much as Rs.40000 to Rs.50000 per show

SRK's wife to endorse a paint brand

COLLECTED BY: RISHI KAPOOR

They say that like father, Like Son. But in Bollywood, anything’s possible! The recent one being ‘Like hubby, like wife chubby’! We are talking about the King Khan and his penchant of giving autographs, on endorsement papers that is! He being the Numero Uno of Bollywood is not uncommon, but then, the fact also remains that he has upstaged many a models even in the endorsement fraternity.

Well, following his footsteps is his wife, Gauri Khan, who is now all set to face the spotlights for the second time, the first time being modeling for the diamond jewellery designed by Maheep Sanjay Kapoor for Notandas jewellery. This time, it is for a commercial for a popular paint brand.

For the uninitiated, Gauri has not only designed SRK’s costumes in some of his films but also donned the producer’s hat for Main Hoon Na and even the forthcoming home production, Om Shanti Om! It will be quite something to see the entire SRK brigade endorsing the same brand, the leaders being Karan Johar and Kareena Kapoor, who also endorse the same brand! So much for painting…the Bollywood red!

No booze for Darjeeling during Indian Idol finals

COLLECTED BY: RISHI KAPOOR

Indian Idol contestant Prashat Tamang surely enjoys a huge fan base in his hometown, Darjeeling, but the frenzy over his selection to the finals, has the district administration worried.
Fearing raucous parties, it has ordered all liquor shops to remain closed from September 22 to September 24 from 5:00 pm onwards. The finals for Indian Idol are scheduled on September 23.
“We have received reports that in some localities people especially the young crowd is getting out of control. So we have taken this decision to close all off-shops from September 22 to September 24 from 5:00 pm onwards, so that we don't have to face any untoward incident,” says District Magistrate, Darjeeling, Rajesh Pandey.
The decision comes as a surprise to both customers and liquor shop owners.
“I don’t think that there is going to be much of a difference. If they want to shut liquor shops that they should issue a notice,” says a liquor owner, Kishore. But the prospect of a dry celebration isn't dampening the spirits of Prashant's fans.
Hundreds of them have been sending in their votes for him round the clock through SMS and phone.

SHOCKING: SRK ignores Shirish

COLLECTED BY: RISHI KAPOOR

For the otherwise politically correct Shah Rukh Khan, this one action comes as a shocker. At the music release of Om Shanti Om, the superstar made sure to call everyone involved with the film. But for some strange reason the film's editor Shirish Kunder's name was never called out. This comes at a time when rumours of a split between Shirish and Shah Rukh are heating up.

It is common knowledge that Shirish had approached Shah Rukh to produce his next film Joker. The idea of this supposedly lavish superhero movie was considered rather naïve by many, especially after the debacle of Shirish's earlier venture – Jaan-E-Mann. Yet Shah Rukh seemed keen to invest money. However, Shirish kept submitting draft after draft of his script. And Khan kept suggesting changes. Things came to a head and that's when they decided to part ways.

Reports of the alleged rift have been doing the rounds for quite some time now. But it seems like the two have now reached a point of no return. One may never know the real reason behind Shirish's exclusion during the music launch. But it certainly was surprising that Shah Rukh should invite everyone and leave out Shirish.

It isn't however that the young editor-turned-director was not present at the event. He walked in and was even seated in one of the first few rows. But for some strange reason he never made it to the dais. And Shirish wasn't spotted even after the main event was over.

Boy in mental hospital after being forced to strip

COLLECTED BY: RISHI KAPOOR

Sanjay Pal Singh, a postgraduate computer student of the Sahara College of Management is lying in the psychiatry ward of Lucknow medical college.

Harassed, stripped, beaten by other students of the private hostel he was staying in, Sanjay broke down.

Says his father, Ajay Singh, "He was harassed, he was stripped and he lost his mental balance."

A resident of Bareilly, Sanjay had recently come to Lucknow. The private hostel he stayed in had students from a number of different colleges.

Sanjay was constantly harassed and threatened by the others. He turned violent, developed an acute fear psychosis and had to be hospitalised.

Says his local guardian, Sudhakar Singh, "He was issued all sorts of threats by other students."

Adds SSP Lucknow, Akhil Kumar, "The police have registered an FIR against three of Sanjay's hostel mates."

Sanjay's condition is now improving but he is in no state to go back to his studies.

It has been more than six years since the Supreme Court set strict guidelines to check the menace of ragging. The time has come when firm action must be taken not only against the students who indulge in ragging but also against the authorities who fail to prevent such ugly incidents.

Saawariya's starry-eyed surprise

COLLECTED BY: RISHI KAPOOR

Two and a half hours delay. Misty-eyed families. Great expectations. The music launch of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus Saawariya saw that and much more. Because it was the dream debut launch that any actor would die for.
So when debutants Ranbir and Sonam were escorted on stage by actors Salman Khan and Rani Mukherji, the two kids on the block were overwhelmed to say the least.
“I will say that I will strive to work harder so that you say I was worthy of this tribute,” Ranbir promised Bhansali at the launch.
“I'm here because of my parents and that sir (Bhansali) decided that I was worthy of doing his film and all I want is for them to be proud of me,” said Sonam.
And the magnitude of this starry launch got even actors Salman Khan and Rani Mukherji envious.
"I wish I had a launch pad like this during Maine Pyaar Kiya,” said Salman.
"It’s the best thing to be launched by Bhansali," agreed Rani.
As for these proud actor parents, emotional as they may be at the moment, they're hoping for the best and keeping their fingers crossed.
"I cannot describe what I'm feeling now. It’s beyond words,” said Anil Kapoor.
"I stand before you with folded hands. Please bless him as you have blessed all the others from my family for the past 80 years. He is the first male actor after four generations to come into the industry,” said veteran actor Rishi Kapoor.

Models may have to provide medical certificates at LFW

COLLECTED BY: RISHI KAPOOR

Catwalk models at London fashion week will be allowed on the ramp only on one condition - a doctor`s certificate proving they are not suffering from any eating disorder. In addition, no models will be allowed to take part until they are over the age of 16, and undergo regular backstage drugs testing. Experts say such certificates, provided by specialist doctors, would help counter endemic health problems in the modelling world such as anorexia and bulimia. The proposal was put forth in the Model Health Inquiry report, which was published on Sep 14, but the report`s creators hope their suggestions will come into force in time for next September`s event. The report has come in response to concerns about the use of "size zero" women and following the deaths of two South American models last year. Labour peer Baroness Kingsmill, who headed the inquiry, said the investigation had revealed "startling" evidence of the susceptibility of models and a "deep lack of knowledge" about eating disorders in the fashion industry.

Lucknow student ragged, suffers nervous breakdown

COLLECTED BY: RISHI KAPOOR

Until Friday, Sanjay Pal Singh was, by all his friends' accounts, a cheerful, extroverted young man.
But today, this first year student of Lucknow’s Sahara Arts and Management Academy lies on a hospital bed, his arms and legs bound, his body bruised. The only words he utters are cries for help.
Sanjay was subjected to extreme ragging in his hostel on Friday, so brutal it gave him a nervous breakdown.
His classmates are shocked. “He was a very cheerful student and was not mentally unstable,” says his classmate Ambika Chaudhry.
Sanjay stayed in Madiyav, the private hostel of the institute. Many engineering and management students from Lucknow University also live there, and police sources say some of them were responsible for ragging Sanjay. Something has happened to him, we can find out only once we meet him,” says another of his classmates, Ravi Kumar.
Police have registered a case against five students. “A case against three people has been lodged. The boy's father has complained of physical and mental torture and we will soon find out who is guilty,” says Deputy Superintendent of Police (Mahanagar), Rajendra Singh.
Doctors at the hospital where Sanjay is admitted say his wounds are healing. They are hoping that, with time, his mind can too.

New Zealand beat India by 10 runs in Super 8 opener

COLLECTED BY : RISHI KAPOOR

Victory eluded India by 10 runs in the first Super 8 match against New Zealand on Sunday at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. Kiwi skipper Daniel Vettori’s bowling figures of 4-20 and valuable 15 runs off just 5 balls awarded him the Man of the Match.

Earlier, Sreesanth made a tremendous effort to change the match result but it was too late to do the damage control. He made 19 runs to lessen the defeat margin. No batsmen on the other end could support him. Harbhajan Singh and RP Singh fell easy prey to Kiwis.

Indian momentum was halted by Kiwi bowlers by taking the vital wicket of MS Dhoni. Daniel Vettori’s terrific throw was rightly picked by Styris who finally knocked the wickets when Dhoni was well short of his ground. Before leaving to the pavilion he could add 24 runs off 24 balls.

Earlier, Yuvraj Singh was cheaply dismissed by Jeetan Patel. He gave a simple catch to Taylor. India lost another crucial wicket of Gautam Gambhir after providing the required momentum to the team. He added valuable 51 runs from just 33 balls before giving away a catch to McCullum on Daniel Vittori’s delivery.

Earlier, Daniel Vettori caught and bowled Robin Uthappa. He could not manage to score even a single run against New Zealand.

Just before that, firebrand Virender Sehwag’s fine innings ended when he hit a full toss and gave away a simple catch to Styris. He smashed 2 sixes and 6 fours to make 40 off just 17 balls. Jacob Oram took his crucial wicket for New Zealand.

Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir gave India just the right start to the Indian innings and exploded runs quickly and massively. India completed their first fifty runs in the 5th over.

Earlier, electrified Indian fielding could not restrict Kiwi willows to set a sporting target of 191 runs after getting all out at the Wanderers stadium in Johannesburg. The first innings of the opening Super 8 match was as thrilling as a close contest. Kiwis played superb shots and Indians showcased terrific fielding and bowling.

The last over brought in three run-outs in favour of India. MS Dhoni vigourously led the team and involved in all the three dramatic run-outs. Jeetan Patel was run out on duck.

McMillian too became the victim of MS Dhoni’s run out and departed in disgust after adding the most valuable 44 runs off just 35 balls. Dhoni’s quick throw picked by bowler RP Singh executed another run out and Shane Bond was shone the way back to the dressing room.

A twist in the drama started just with the first ball of the 20th over. RP Singh scalped the wicket of the Kiwi captain Daniel Vettori who quick fired 15 runs from just five balls.

Earlier, Kiwis’ willows executed fire works against India and left Indian bowlers helpless. Fielders too were mum as ball just knew the way to the boundary either flying in the air or kissing the ground. 18th and the 19th over of Kiwis’ innings showered 40 runs.

There were 123 mostly foreign passengers and five crew members on the plane, One-To-Go Airlines flight OG269 from Bangkok to Phuket, Thai television station TITV reported.

Survivors described their escape from the airplane`s windows as fires and smoke consumed the plane.

"I saw passengers engulfed in fire as I stepped over them on way out of the plane," Parinwit Chusaeng, a survivor who suffered minor burns, told the Nation television channel. "I was afraid that the airplane was going to explode so I ran away."

Phuket`s Deputy Governor Worapot Ratthaseema said that that at least 66 bodies were laid out in the airport building.

An Irish survivor, identified as Sean, told of being badly burned on his arms, legs and back as he escaped the flames. Speaking to TITV from a local hospital, he said he knew something was wrong even before the flight landed.

"You could tell when it was landing it was in trouble," he said. "It was making a noise, this bang."

Chaisak Angsuwan, director general of the Air Transport Authority of Thailand. said the plane crashed in heavy rain and then split in two. It skidded off the runaway and crashed into a wooded area.

"The visibility was poor as the pilot attempted to land. He decided to make a go-around but the plane lost balance and crashed," he said. "It was torn into two parts."

UMA KHURANA: I want to start my normal life once again.

BLOGGER: What is this normal life that you are talking about?

Uma Khurana: My home, my family, my kids, my job and my school - I want to start my normal routine life.

BLOGGER: The character assassination that has already been done how do you assess the situation right now?

Uma Khurana: God will do everything. There has been no such problem in my past 20-year’s job life. I have a very good track record. I hope looking into all this the Delhi government will give justice in my favour. I am hundred per cent sure about it.

BLOGGER:Why the person has targeted you what is the reason behind that?

Uma Khurana I cant say why he was making me target what was the motive behind that. But yes there was a great conspiracy behind this to kill me. The whole episode was shown on TV when I was in class thinking that people can attack me and can kill me.

BLOGGER:Do you want to sue the TV channel?

Uma Khurana: Yes I want to sue the media but not against the Delhi government. I want to take action against the channel that has defamed me and demoralised me.

The SMS which shocked Ram Gopal Varma

COLLECTED BY: RISHI KAPOOR

Ram Gopal Varma has received innumerable text messages, all ridiculing and berating him for attempting to re-visit
Sholay.

"The messages have been pretty vocal and direct about their dislike for what I've done. I've been called names and treated to the nastiest comments. But I've enjoyed the backlash, far more than people enjoyed Aag," laughs Ramu.

Here's the text that Ramu says changed his opinion on his right to remake his favourite film. (Parts of the message have been revised for coherence).

"Hi Sir. To call Aag a piece of junk would be demeaning junk. What happened to the colours of Rangeela and the grit of Satya? No clear story, meaningless script, obsession with dark lighting, weak screenplay, and songs that are too high-pitched and outdated. You were in a hurry while shooting. Fast editing, nonsensical expressions, no romance, horrifying background music and choreography, cinematography is horrid, bad clothes, bad hoardings, bad amateurish dialogues, bad characterizations with no emotional graph for the characters, leaving the actors free to ham, outdated action, emotionless scenes, no comedy, no colour. You should sit and watch your film alone. No freshness, carelessness in creativity. You've become over-confident and you are losing touch with reality. You're handing over creative work to the wrong people. You're impulsively doing ten films at a time and not focusing on one project. You've enjoyed the shooting without caring about what the outcome would be. You're busy giving stupid interviews. What have you done in the past seven years except a couple of notable films?"

Says Ramu, "The above message shook me completely. It made me realize it's time for me to do some serious re-thinking about my career."

Yummy Ramzan food goes online

collected by: rishi kapoor

Ramzan, Iftaar and Haleem - it's a potent combination, and hotels in Hyderabad know it. That's why over 2,000 of them have begun selling now selling the traditional wheat and mutton dish to hungry customers.

But if you can't handle all the waiting and just want to get at that meat, there's now an online option.

“Anybody who would like to have Haleem can visit www.gati.com or they can call 1800-180-4284 and they can place the order and we will deliver it. It is a unique thing and they can pay through their credit card,” says Head of Retail Business, Gati Limited, M.Maheen Kannu.

Logistics firm Gati has tied up with Pista House, a local food chain to deliver Haleem to any location in the country within 48 hours.

Indian radio industry to reach Rs 12,000 cr by 2010

After a sluggish growth in radio advertising in 2001, the radio market has been witnessing steady growth in the last 5 years. The radio market on an aggregate basis has grown consistently by 4.4 per cent in the last 2 years. United States has been leading the growth and has demonstrated growth exceeding the growth in the last year. The global radio industry is projected to increase from $44.6 billion in 2005 to an estimated $58.8 billion in 2010, averaging 5.7 per cent compound annual growth. Slow-growing public radio license fees will hold down increases in EMEA (Europe, Middle East & Africa) and Asia Pacific to 3.3 per cent and 4.2 per cent respectively. Digital broadcasting will play a key role in improving radio advertising but its positive impact will be partially offset by the growing audience fragmentation that will dampen ad rates. Satellite radio is projected to boost spending in the United States and Canada, and provide modest incremental revenue in Asia Pacific. After the second FM radio policy, India is growing towards 300 radio stations as compared to 21 stations earlier. 91 cities will be covered by the new radio stations, compared to 21 cities earlier. Thus, listeners in over 70 cities, largely in the B.C and D categories, will be listening to private FM radio stations, earlier serviced only by the State broadcaster. Over 40 companies will be operating in the industry as compared to 7 earlier.

Of the total advertising spend in India the radio industry’s share is about 2 per cent. This share is expected to rise substantially over the next ten years, going by the explosive growth in the ad inventory and the wide reach, especially the lower segment markets that the radio industry can now offer.

Based on these factors, coupled with other regulatory corrections such as migration to a revenue-share regime and allowing Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) up to 20 per cent, the sector is emerging for tremendous growth over the coming years.

Sachin offered Test, ODI captaincy

SACHIN TENDULKAR will take over as the skipper of both the Test and the One-Day team.

According to sources, the selection committee has already spoken to Tendulkar and the Little Master has agreed to lead the Indian team although he will take another two days to give his final word.

Tendulkar has told the selection committee that he is willing to lead the Test and One-Day team once again but he should be appointed the captain on a series to series basis.

India Twenty20 skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni will be Tendulkar's deputy in both the teams, the sources added.

The post of the Indian Test and One-Day skipper fell vacant after Rahul Dravid decided to call it quits.

In a press release issued by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday, Dravid was quoted as saying that he now "wanted to concentrate on his game and did not want to take the additional pressure of leading the side".

Dravid had already spoken to the BCCI President Sharad Pawar on Thursday in New Delhi about his decision to step down.

The selection committee will meet on September 18 to name the team for the upcoming One-Day series against Australia and are also expected to formally announce Tendulkar's appointment as the skipper of the team.

Tendulkar has led the Indian team twice in the past and was not very successful but the thinking in the BCCI and the selection committee is that given the turmoil that Indian cricket finds itself after Dravid's 'I Quit' call, only a senior and experienced hand should be given the responsibility.

Tendulkar has already led India in 25 Tests winning four, drawing nine and losing 12. In the ODIs, too, he does not have a great captaincy record.

Out of the 73 matches that Tendulkar led India in, the team lost 43, winning 23 other matches while six ended without a result with one tie.

Hrithik ditches Zoya Akhtar

For the last one-year Hrithik Roshan and Zoya Akhtar have been jointly working on the script for Kismet Talkies. Hrithik had committed to the film about a year ago. Zoya Akhtar being the through professional that she is had given him a fully complete script. Unfortunately, Hrithik was not happy with the script. But Zoya was so clear about having Hrithik that she went ahead and made the changes. And Hrithik pretended he was okay with the script. He maintained he would start shooting for Zoya's film just as soon as he was through with Jodha Akbar.

But now that Hrithik has finally completed Jodha Akbar he has given Zoya the royal ditch. A source close to the actor informed us, "He claims he is unhappy with the script but that is not the case. Firstly, Hrithik wants to start his father's film Crazy 4 which has been delayed due to Jodha Akbar. Secondly, Zoya was keen on Kareena Kapoor and Suzanne Roshan is not comfortable at the idea of her hubby working with Kareena."

Hrithik's decision has stunned everybody as the film was to be made under the Farhan Akhtar's banner Excel Entertainment, the people who gave Hrithik the critically acclaimed film Lakshya. But then, that's gratitude for you!

Setu row: Jairam has a dig at Soni, she offers to quit if asked by PM

The controversy over the Ram Setu affidavit took a new turn on Saturday with Union Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh stating that he would have resigned if he had been the Cultural Minister owning moral responsibility. Soni, however, retorted that she was not Jairam and added,” I will not take even a minute to relinquish my post if my leaders ask me to do so."

"I would have resigned if I had been the Cultural Minister," Ramesh told reporters when asked about his reaction on the Ram Sethu issue.

Ramesh said that the affidavit, which created a controversy by denying the existence of Lord Rama, was wrongly drafted by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and the Cultural Minister was totally unaware of it.

Ramesh said that the affidavit was withdrawn later due to the intervention of Congress president Sonia Gandhi. He said that the affidavit had definitely hurt the sentiments of the people and was improper.

Ramesh`s statement came in the wake of the Union Culture Minister Ambika Soni`s meeting with the Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

Ambika Soni, however, offered to resign over the fiasco after her ministerial colleague took potshots at her. "I will not take even a minute to relinquish my post if my leaders (Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi) ask me to do so," she told reporters.

She was asked to comment on the remarks in Kolkata of Jairam Ramesh that he would have resigned if he had been the Culture Minister. The affidavit was wrongly drafted by the ASI and the Culture Minister was not aware of it, he had said.

"I am not Jairam Ramesh," Soni shot back.

Soni, who returned last night from her visit to Japan, ordered suspension of two senior officials of the ASI, which comes her ministry, and has now sought an explanation from the ASI Director General Anshu Vaish, an IAS officer, on her role in the filing of the affidavit.

She said three corrections had been suggested in the draft affidavit by her ministry on September seven, out of which two were carried out, while one was omitted.

"The Culture Ministry made three corrections in the affidavit, rather deletions, of which two were carried out, while the third was missed," said Soni, who had a meeting with the Congress pesident this morning to explain her ministry`s role in the matter.

She said the draft affidavit was sent by the Additional Solicitor to the ASI, which then forwarded it to the Ministry.

The affidavit submitted in the Apex Court earlier this week stated there was no historical evidence to prove the existence of either Lord Ram or the Ram Setu, a manmade bridge, triggering a major controversy.

On who was responsible for the omission, Soni said an inquiry was on, which would find out who made the slip-up, but added "I will not allow anyone to become a scapegoat".

"A departmental inquiry is on. We will find out who is responsible," Soni said.

The Centre has already sought personal explanation from ASI chief on her role in the filing of the document in the Supreme Court in the form of an affidavit on the Ram Setu issue.

Ambika Soni's job at stake over Setu fiasco

With the Centre actively engaging itself in a major damage control exercise over the Ram Setu controversy, Union Culture Minister Ambika Soni is under tremendous pressure with her own ministerial colleagues now demanding her resignation over the fiasco.

The Centre had on Friday withdrawn two affidavits from the Supreme Court, including the one which said there was no scientific evidence to establish the existence of Lord Ram and the Ramar Setu.

The government also suspended two senior ASI officials, including a director and an assistant director, over the controversy.

Within the Congress, hard politicking is on and Soni could just become the scapegoat if the party needs. Her ministerial colleague Jairam Ramesh indicated that he would want her to resign.

"I cannot speak on behalf of Ambika Soni who is a senior colleague and a good friend of mine. But had I been a Cabinet Minister and had this happened, I would

Soni says her ministry was not responsible for the contentious affidavit that proclaimed Lord Ram to be a myth. She, however, she's ready to accept the responsibility and make the 'ultimate sacrifice' (read, resign) if the Prime Minister and the party high command want her to do so

At the same time, Soni reiterates that an amendment made by her ministry had not been incorporated in the affidavit.

Soni, in fact, claims that the Culture Ministry was not responsible for the controversial affidavit on the Ram Setu, which the government had submitted in the Supreme Court earlier this week, sparking off huge protests from the BJP and various Hindu organisations.

Speaking at a press conference, she said the draft of the affidavit came from the Additional Solicitor General and she had made three amendments to it. One of these amendments was not incorporated. The ASI did not prepare the affidavit, she claims.

"A major amendment, which we wanted in place of a line which could cause problems, was left intact in the counter-affidavit which was filed before the court, which we feel is a gross negligence and cannot be overlooked," Soni said on Saturday.

She also said that she would resign if the Prime Minister and Sonia Gandhi want her to do so. "I have sent all the papers to the Prime Minister. If he thinks I should resign, I will do so immediately," she said.

have certainly resigned," he said.
